Name: Elle Perry Homebase: Memphis, TN Blog: Beale Street Chic Month/Year Blog Launched: Feb. 2010 How did you get into blogging? I was always interested in fashion. I used to want to be a fashion designer–until I found out you had to sew. Lol. Whenever I wrote for a publication, I never ended up doing a fashion story. When I was no longer working at a publication, the interest was still there. I saw other women blog and thought that I could try it too. What has been the best thing about it? Hardest? The best thing is all of the talented, lovely people I’ve gotten to meet. It’s gratifying to hear that someone attended an event because they saw it on my site. The hardest is sometimes making myself sit down and do things that are scheduled but are slightly tedious. Some types of posts are a lot more exciting to create (specifically ones with a lot of pictures) and are more fulfilling. I generally enjoy the blog, though, even with the occasional tedious tasks… What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog? Right now I’m in grad school. I’m studying public relations with a specialty in nonprofit administration. I also work as the Assistant Coordinator for The Teen Appeal, the citywide high school paper for Memphis City Schools. Dream Job: I’d like to be Executive Director of a nonprofit. I want to keep blogging too. Describe your look in five words: feminine. eclectic. colorful. texture-filled chameleon. Who/what influences your style? I get a lot of inspiration from OOTD blogs like meek n mild, nusophisticate, Keiko Lynn, Where Did U Get That, Style Pantry, etc. Who are some of your favorite designers? I like Jason Wu, Matthew Williamson, and Burberry. Where are some of your favorite places to shop? Locally, I’ve been hitting up thrift stores a lot. Junior League Repeat Boutique is amazing! Sugar Plum Consignments and Charm Boutique are really good consignment stores. Crazy/Beautiful is great in the variety it has. There’s literally something for everyone. Online retailers I love are Asos, Modcloth and Topshop. What’s one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without? Ballet flats. What’s a classic item that every woman should own? A flattering pair of blue jeans. Which trend(s) were you most excited to try this season? I’m digging the colored jeans. Fashion on Film: Which movies inspire you? Not a movie, but I watch Mad Men which is based in the 1960s. There are some really fabulous blouses (think tie neck) featured. It’s given me some outfit ideas. Three magazines that you MUST read monthly: Lucky Magazine (great store and travel shopping features), Allure (primarily for makeup), Essence (beauty recommendations for women of color and cute street style). Three items in your makeup bag: I have this great felt tip liquid eyeliner from Jordana, Wet n Wild eyeshadow palettes, and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. Favorite color of lipstick/lipgloss: I usually stick to a clear or nude gloss (no brand preference). I need to branch out in this area! Favorite color of nail polish: Zoya Polish in Adina. It’s a really cool purple with a greenish sheen. Words of (style) wisdom: Trends are fun but wear what makes you feel the best. The most important question of all: cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream? Hmmm… Ice cream! I’m looking to buy an ice cream maker. 🙂 Thanks Elle! Photos | My Trolley Night Finds Beauty Buy | NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer
