On Saturday I attended the opening reception for Fash·ion Plate, a new fashion illustration exhibit at ArtsMemphis.
Part of the Memphis Fashion Week festivities, in addition to showcasing the original sketches for the designers selected for the Emerging Designer portion of the runway shows on Day 1, the exhibit also featured work from other Memphis artists as well: Charles Chandler, Stephanie Converse, Carol DeForest, Beth Edwards, Brantley Ellzey, Joyce Gingold, Megan Hurdle, Anne Siems, Mel Spillman, and Jeni Stallings.
These last series of sketches were created by Charles Chandler, one of the go to Illustrators for publications before photography became the medium for showcasing fashion. Now retired, he created sketches used in ads for brands & designers including Geoffrey Beene, Catherine’s, Goldsmith’s, & Maybelline.
The exhibit will be on displace until May 31, and I highly recommend it.
