When the L’Oréal Paris Magic Nude Liquid Powder Makeup ($12.99) first launched earlier this year to rave reviews, I was a little skeptical to try it out.
Because it’s designed to have an “unmakeup” look with a powder finish, I wasn’t sure I’d like it. I have combination skin with a few hyper-pigmentation spots (and an ongoing battle with my pores), so I didn’t think it would give me the coverage that I needed. Plus, if a foundation is too dry, my skin looks extremely blah.
However, I love their True Match Collections (both the original + the Lumi), and I’d seen it listed as a dupe for Armani’s Maestro Foundation, so I decided to test it out. Initially, I wasn’t a huge fan. The color selection and coverage was ok, and I liked how it felt on the skin, but it didn’t last long at all. Until…
I added in another color, a primer, and a kabuki brush.
Contrary to what the directions say, application (FOR ME) was better WITH a brush. I needed to mix 2 shades (Sun Beige and Classic Tan) for the perfect match, and once I layered it over my primer, it boosted it’s lasting power. I lightly set with powder, bc I didn’t want to take away the refreshed look it gives skin. Bc it’s a really thin liquid, this isn’t one that I would take on the go.
Although coverage is buildable, I wouldn’t recommend using this if you prefer the look of a heavier foundation. If you’re someone that wears BB Cream or tinted moisturizer, this a great alternative. Your skin can definitely breathe and shine through while still looking polished. It comes in 12 shades, though for some you may have to mix to get the perfect match.
