When I learned that Tart Memphis, a new coffee shop + cafe was opening in Cooper Young, I knew I had to go to their soft opening Wednesday. Cooper Young is probably my favorite part of town, so learning that there would be a new spot for me to chill and read/blog from on my off days while enjoying a sweet treat (or two!) made me a happy girl.
A creative mix of french pastries with a NOLA twist, Tart isn’t just your regular coffee shop.
It truly feels like a cafe, and I love the fact that it has an open yet cozy floorplan so you can see what’s happening while they prepare your coffee and meals, but you can slink into a cozy corner and get lost in your book or conversations with friends. They also have a patio, so on days when you want to people watch while enjoying some sunshine, it’s the perfect spot.
Using ingredients from the Farmer’s Market, they support local endeavors (and you can taste the freshness), but they also showcase local art and will be having events and classes as well. For lunch I had the Salade Tuna Nicoise, a Tartelette Fraise, and a cappuccino (all yummy!)
The cute little cafe fosters a sense of community, which is exactly what the neighborhood is known for. I spoke briefly with one of the owners, Heather Pike, and I love how passionate she is about Tart, and the fact that she was so friendly and open (she recommended the dishes I tried, and made sure to greet everyone that came in. Being personable goes a VERY long way!).
It’s so cute, and the food was delish so I”ll definitely be back!
