Name: Kayla Bey
Blog Name: The Style Lineup
Homebase: Boston, Florida, Japan, and now Memphis. Every place I have lived I’ll always consider home.
Month/Year Blog Launched: October 2013
How did you get into blogging?
It’s been a long process. After being asked to do makeup tutorials a number of times I started a YouTube channel a few years ago but more recently found my niche in blogging. I finished my MBA in September of 2013 and it wasn’t long before I was ready to take on another project. I created The Style Lineup to incorporate not only my love for makeup but also for fashion and style as well.
What has been the best thing about it? Hardest?
The best thing is having an outlet for my creativity. The Style Lineup is very personal to me; it’s been a journey of pushing my fashion boundaries and I’m very thankful that there are so many opportunities out there for fashion bloggers. The hardest part is I can’t get enough of it! I wear many hats and sometimes it’s hard to pull myself away.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
I work a full-time job and I’m a mom to three adorable Yorkies but you’re likely to find me always doing something for The Style Lineup whether it’s coming up with a new post or styling a new outfit, I’ve completely immersed myself in it and I love it!
Dream Job:
My dream job is threefold: I’d love to have my own wardrobe consulting business, maintain a Q & A column in a magazine, and become a celebrity stylist. That would be the ultimate for me.
Describe your look in five words:
Feminine, edgy, abstract, and colorful.
Who/what influences your style?
Nicole Richie and Jessica Alba who are always effortlessly chic and then of course magazines and fashion shows. Street style blogs have also been a major influence; I love seeing different takes on trends.
Who are some of your favorite designers?
There are so many out there to choose from but I’ve always loved Marc Jacobs for his unconventional take on beauty and timeless pieces. Others includes Marchesa, Rag & Bone, and Jason Wu.
Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
I’m a huge fan of online shopping! I’ve been frequenting Zara, TopShop and Asos lately!
What’s one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?
My Nine West pumps, every girls needs a sexy stiletto that can transition through seasons.
What’s a classic item that every woman should own?
Well, there are a few: a fitted blazer, a trustworthy pair of jeans, and a wrap dresses. These are base pieces that you can build from when creating your wardrobe.
Which trend(s) were you most excited to try this season?
Sheer, graphic prints, floral, and fringe! I’ve been waiting for this all winter!
Fashion on Film: Which movies inspire you?
Scatter My Ashes at Bergdorf’s was an interesting documentary on the Manhattan based department store with the likes of Rachel Zoe, Karl Lagerfeld, Vera Wang and more. It’s a must see!
Three magazines that you MUST read monthly:
InStyle, People Style Watch, and Vogue.
Three items in your makeup bag:
I’m all about eyes most of the time so it’s Stila’s Stay All Day Eyeliner, Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara, and Sigma’s Brow Powder Duo.
Favorite color of lipstick/lipgloss:
Chanel lipgloss in Insolence. Perfect for spring!
Favorite color of nail polish:
Right now I’m wearing Snog by Butter London and I love it. Top it with an OPI topcoat and you’ll have a fresh mani for days!
Words of (style) wisdom:
Be sure to take yourself out of your comfort zone every now and then. Whether it’s wearing a colorful pair of shoes or a patterned pair of trousers you’d be surprised how your style evolves by pushing your boundaries a little at a time.
The most important question of all: cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream?
Cupcakes, always! I love all of the elegant and chic cupcake shops popping up everywhere!
Thanks Kayla!
