Mega Music Sensation One Direction collaborated with Markwin to release their own collection of beauty products, and I was able to sample “Take Me Home”, one of 3 “The Looks Collections” via Brandbacker. Each collection was named after their 3 albums (Up All Night, Take Me Home, Midnight Memories) and with distinctly different looks. Designed for “the girl next door”, this “Take Me Home” kit was warm-hued and neutral based so that it could be worn every day. The collection came in a cute keepsake tin and included product info and the following products:
- Kiss You’ Liquilights glow gloss: Orange glitter rush lip gloss that glows to neon yellow under UV light
- Eyeshadow palette containing:
Back For You – Velvet creme
- Change My Mind – Peachy shimmer
- C’Mon C’Mon – Soft taupe
- Little Things – Smokey brown
- Take Me Home – Golden glitter creme
- ‘Last First Kiss’ – Nude pink sheer lipstick
- ‘Little Black Dress’ – Volumising black mascara
- ‘Live While We’re Young’ – Multi Dimensional gold glitter nail polish
- ‘I Wish’ – Chocolate brown eye and body crayon
Product impressions: The eyeshadows are velvety smooth and do show up, BUT, you will need a primer and/or use quality brushes, OR apply them wet. I swatched them on my arm and while pretty, they’re not as pigmented as I thought they would be (this is with 2 coats). Shadows IMO, this particular shadow palette is better for paler skin. It isn’t a total waste for someone with brown or olive skin though, because that peach, when applied with a stiff flat brush, will make for a great base, and the gold shadow gives a little bit of shimmer, so if you don’t want a heavy sparkle you can add this. The browns have a bit of an ash understone, so they can be used on the brows. Lips The lipstick and lipgloss give sheer washes of color. The lipgloss is designed to show up under UV lights, but just as an every day gloss, I actually liked it. It’s not sticky at all and didn’t slide around, and the little gold flake shimmers will make this warm up your pinks and nudes. The lipstick is really smooth but more like a tint, If it would’ve been a bit more pigmented this would’ve been the perfect baby pink. Eyes The chocolate liner is really creamy, pigmented, and quite long lasting (it was hard for me to get the swatch off). If you’re someone that doesn’t like black shadow and thinks it’s too harsh, this is a good alternative. If you’re wanting to do a brown smoky eye, this is creamy enough to serve as the base for it. This mascara is great for everyday. You have to build it up, but it lifts and separates beautifully without clumping or smudging, which is a HUGE need for me. This might be my favorite product out of it all. Nails + Accessories The glitter polish is just that-glitter polish. It doesn’t douse your nails with glitter, just gives it a few flicks, and the stencils are cute for those nights that you want to be a little more playful with your makeup look OR you can use them on a photoshoot on the body. My verdict on this collection? If you’re a die-hard makeup junkie (regardless of age) skip this one. If you’re just now experimenting with makeup or you’re a parent that wants to be the one to show your daughter/niece how to apply makeup properly without it being an over the top look, this is great for it. The tools that you use with it (primer, brushes, etc) will make a huge difference in how it looks. The other 2 collections seem to be a little more pigmented, so you may want to try those first. The Makeup by One Direction “The Looks Collection” is now available in the US at Macy’s, Stage Stores, Dillards, Beauty Brands, and Lord and Taylor and retails for $28.50 each.
