I’ve always had a relatively simple skincare routine, but once I turned 30, I started incorporating more products and steps as needed to ensure my skin remained healthy and youthful looking. You can’t turn back the hands of time, but you can keep it fresh and pretty, you know?
One of my favorite things to do is exfoliate, so I was thrilled to try Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant, a rice-based powder exfoliate that turns into a creamy lather upon contact with water. It contains papain, salicylic acid, and rice enzymes, which helps to remove dead cells while brightening and smoothing skin. I’d heard about the benefits of rice enzymes before (gentle exfoliation with brightening capabilities), so I always wanted to try out products that contained it. Maintaining clear, bright skin is my number one skincare concern, and I like scrubs that have a little bit of “grit” without feeling like my face is being ripped off.
The Microfoliant isn’t hard to use at all: once you cleanse your skin, just shake 1/2-1 teaspoon of product into your hand, activate it with water to form a lather, and then massage it onto your skin for one minute. Rinse, and then commence to constantly touch your face because it’s so soft. It’s a little drying but safe enough for every day use, so make sure that you use a moisturizer and/or SPF. I haven’t had any bad reactions and am starting to see a difference in my skin (lightening of a few lingering hyper-pigmentation spots) so while it’s a bit pricey ($52 for 2.6 ounce), I think it’s a pretty good product. Any exfoliant I can use on a daily basis is a plus in my book.
