How did you get into blogging?
I started blogging when I started college in 2009 as a productive, creative outlet. It was around the time when style blogging was becoming more and more popular, and I loved it. I thought, ‘hey, I think I can do that.’ I had a lot of fun with it, but then life got more serious, and I couldn’t keep in up the way I wanted. After getting used to the busy-ness of my “grown-up” life, I found a way to make blogging a part of it all, and I picked it back up.
What has been the best thing about it? Hardest?
The best thing about blogging is that I love it. It is mine and I get to produce it however I want. I try to blog about things that I would get excited about if I were reading a blog, and doing that alone is fun for me. It’s a great creative outlet.
Keeping it consistent and and of good quality. I have a journalism background, so I view my blog as a publication. So, you don’t want to look for your favorite magazine on the shelf one day and it’s not there, or it’s not as interesting as it was last week. That’s the hardest part. You always have to be on it.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
I’m a student, so I’m in the books, which is really code for ‘I spend a lot of time on the internet (laughs).’ Besides the boring work and school answer, I’m usually experimenting with some recipe, or trying to do some DIY project miserably. I like to go thrifting! Mainly just looking through all the old, antique goods hoping for a gem. Oh, and to relax I just watch old episodes of my favorite shows on Hulu.
Dream Job:
I would love to write for a magazine or TV show. Either a lifestyle magazine, not just fashion, like Glamour, or a comedy. I would love to write for something like The Mindy Project. She’s hilarious!
Describe your look in five words:
Oh, hell. That’s hard! I’m all over the place. Okay, let’s see. I’ll give you one: experimental. I’m young, and there are so many styles out there I love playing with. I’m allowed to experiment. One day I’ll be simple and classic and the next day I’ll be all glammed out. I like that I can do that with style.
Who/what influences your style?
My mood. I dress depending on how I feel that day and what I’m trying to tell the world about myself. Also, my mom and my older aunts. They have a very 50’s idea of fashion and style and I see that in my style – they still wear vintage bras. You know the pointy ones (laughs)! They instilled in me that style is a way of speaking without speaking, and that you should always be put together.
Who are some of your favorite designers?
Designers…I’m not going to lie. I don’t think I’m at the place in my life where I even dream about designers. I will say that I do love Christian Siriano. I follow him on Instagram and his designs are so beautiful and feminine. I would want him to design me something.
Where are some of your favorite places to shop?
I shop wherever my wallet allows. For quick, trendy items I go to H&M, Forever 21 or Old Navy. I love J.Crew for their classic, tailored items. I love Madewell, too.
What’s one item in your wardrobe that you can’t live without?
That’s like asking me to choose a favorite child! I can’t decide! I just got a pair of really destroyed denim that I’ve had so much fun wearing. I can do so much with it! So, that’s my item that I can’t live without (for this month).
What’s a classic item that every woman should own?
A well-fitted dress that can be dressed up or down. A good dress can be a life saver.
Which trend(s) were you most excited to try this season?
I was excited to break out my pastel coat. I like the idea of soft colors in the winter.
Fashion on Film: Which movies inspire you?
Breakfast at Tiffany’s for sure. It’s such an expected answer, but Holly in that movie was dressed so well, but in a way that made you feel like she wasn’t trying hard. She really was just that fabulous.
Two magazines that you MUST read monthly:
Glamour + Psychology Today (the articles are really interesting).
Three items in your makeup bag:
Eyebrow pencil with attached brush, Benefit’s Watts Up Highlighter, and C.O. Bigelow’s Mentha Supreme Lip Shine.
Favorite color of lipstick/lipgloss:
This is hard because I am a lipgloss and lipstick hoarder. I guess I’ll say the one in my purse now: M.A.C. Deelight, a nude-ish pink.
Favorite color of nail polish:
Actually, it’s not so much a color, but I have to have some glitter on my nails.
Words of (style) wisdom:
Wear what makes you feel the most like yourself, your best self. I know when I have on a good outfit I feel like I can handle anything. I dare someone to bother me when I’m all dressed up!
The most important question of all: cookies, cupcakes, or ice cream?
(laughs) Um, cupcakes!
