I’m not quite sure how this came about, but over the weekend I became obsessed with finding a world map (wallpaper or print) to decorate with. If you’re someone that’s not really big on wall art but would like to put something up to keep them from being completely bare, a world map could be an easy solution. You can go with a full on wall mural/wall paper, or find a smaller vintage print in a frame-the choice is yours.
The cool thing about it is, regardless of the color palette that you have in the chosen room or nook, you can find a map that will compliment the design. I’ve seen black + white/grayscale prints, pastel hues (like above) and warm, rustic hues of traditional maps. Plus, they’re not as expensive as you think: large prints on Etsy start around $15 (you’d probably pay more for the frame than the map itself), and you can find large rolls of wallpaper as low as $5 on Ebay.
Alternately, you can find heavier canvas prints + panels starting at $30. If it’s a passing decor phase and you don’t really want anything permanent, you can go with decals, which can be easily removed when you’re over it (and start around $12). I personally want wallpaper or a large print in a simple frame.
I’m going to do a little hunting around town this week (I’m impatient and like to buy things as soon as I see them), but I’ve found a few options online, in addition to a little decor inspiration:
Vintage World Map Wall Mural, Happy WallBrewster World Map Panel Mural, $45
Old World Map Wall Mural (same as ft. image), Happy WallImage viaWorld Map Wall Decal, Chick Design Boutique, $12

Antique Oceans World Political Wall Map Mural, $67+up
Do you have any maps incorporated into your decor?

This is dope. I’d love to do this in an office space.

I’m debating on my 2nd bedroom/office or a large print on one of the walls in my living room.

Totally digging this. I have become obsessed with around the house DIY. My mission it to get my place feature on apartment therapy before the year is out.

that would be amazing!

Hi Kim – I LOVE the first image you used in this post! Is that an original photo, or do you remember where you got it? Thanks!

Hi Megan! It’s from the same site as the 2nd photo (Happy Wall). For some reason the link wasn’t working properly but I’ve updated it; click on it and it and it will take you right to it. 🙂
