When it comes to breakfast/brunch, I am more of a pancakes or waffle girl, but when I met my friend Kelly for breakfast at The Booksellers Bistro (formerly Bronte Bistro), I was told by everyone to try the Crème Brûlée French Toast. The Booksellers is one of my favorite local bookstores and I’ve been there for lunch multiple times, but this breakfast would be a first so I wanted to make it GOOD.
Yall. I have to learn how to make Crème Brûlée sauce because It. Is. Divine. Over. French. Toast. It gives you a similar sweetness that you’d have with maple syrup, but it isn’t overpowering or heavy. I had it topped with fresh bananas and berries and the flavors blended perfectly. It came with sausage, which was crisp (and added a nice saltiness to the mix), so when I was able to get a forkful with a little bit of everything on it, it was heaven. I balanced it out with a latte (I mean, you can’t not have a latte at a bookstore bistro), and although it was a large portion (I didn’t finish all of it), I wasn’t sluggish or weighed down when we were done. For right under $10, it was the perfect breakfast to have on a cool summer morning. The next time I go with friends, I’ll suggest we split it with other breakfast options because it’s seriously enough for 2 people. A total standout dish!
Breakfast is served from 7:30 until 11:00 during the week and until 3:00 on the weekends so it’s perfect for both those on the go and the people who can relax in the a.m. while they enjoy a good book.
