Good Eats | El Mero Taco Food Truck | KP FUSION
Food trucks have become much more prominent in Memphis, so anytime I can try out a new one, I’m game. On Sunday, El Mero Taco was setup at City + State for an event, so I made a point to grab something because who doesn’t love tacos??? They offered 7 different menu items (which I was thankful for, because I don’t like being overloaded with choices in certain settings), and I decided to try the Fried Shrimp Taco ($5) + Sweet Potato Wedges ($4). The Fried Shrimp Taco was made with asian slaw, cilantro, and wasabi aioli. The fried shrimp was lightly seasoned and crunchy but not overcooked, and the wasabi aioli added a nice kick to the asian slaw. Lime juice helps to bring out flavors even more, so always, always, always squeeze the lime for the added freshness. The Sweet Potato Wedges were topped with queso fresco, cilantro, and chipotle aioli; the potatoes were slightly firm (you want them to have some sturdiness and not be mushy), and while I typically like them with cinnamon + butter or even BBQ sauce (trust me), I liked the creaminess of the aioli, and the queso fresco (fresh cheese) helped balance the spiciness. The combination of all of the flavors was like a party in my mouth. Very filling, but not heavy so I was able to continue on with my afternoon without going into a food coma. I’d heard great things about El Mero Taco (a lot of the people that I ran into at City + State told me they’d been hunting them down) and I was very pleased with my meal. Next on my list from them? The Fried Chicken Taco (yes, you read that right!), Chilaquiles (like nachos w/brisket), and their Mexican Street Corn (I first tried this last year at another restaurant and it is so yum!). Follow them on Facebook + Twitter to find out their weekly schedule; on Friday they will be in midtown for Broad Avenue’s Art Walk so you can grab a bite while checking out all of cool art and other shops!
