I looooove the look of radiant, dewy skin, but I still have an arsenal of powders in my makeup bag to help keep the oil and shine away. I’ve been testing out Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Powder ($22) for the last month or so, and I’m finally at a place where I understand its purpose, and it’s moved into my day-to day makeup bag.
Infused with Photoluminescent Technology, the finishing powders are designed to help soften the look of skin while providing transparent coverage. Basically, it will help you achieve the “glow from within” look. There are six shades; I picked up Dim Light, which is a neutral peachy shade that works well with my skintone. I decided to pick this up because sometimes translucent powder can make your skin look flat once you set it. This powder can be used all over the face, but I particually like to use it to set my concealer. It has a very subtle highlighting effect, so you won’t have reverse raccoon eyes, and if you have dark circles, it works great with your concealer to further cancel them out.
Initially I tried it with a big fluffy brush, but for myself, it works best with the Real Techniques Setting Brush ($7.99). And although I’m using a brush, I use a patting motion instead of sweeping motion so that it doesn’t move my makeup around.
What’s your favorite setting powder?
