Get into the deliciousness that is the Ham Sammie at Porcellino’s. I FINALLY made my way over to the Cafe/Butcher shop for a quick meeting and I honestly don’t know why its taken me so long to get over there. I’ve heard (and seen on IG!) nothing but rave reviews since they opened in December 2014, so I was excited when it was suggested as the meeting ground.
Founded by Chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, Porcellino’s is a space that not only offers charcuterie, but it’s a cool little cafe that has a pretty sweet selection of pastries, pastas, and other dishes that you can indulge in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (on-site or at home).
The first time I visit an eatery, I always want to pick the “right” dish, so I like to find out what the waiter’s faves are and pick from there. I decided on the Ham Sammie (city ham, pickled fennel, arugula, dijon mustard, fried egg, open face house white bread) with a side of Squash + Zucchini (with tomato jam, basil pesto, peanut crispies) and Sicilian blood orange tea.
The ham was so flavorful, with the fried egg taking it over the edge (seriously, I’m putting eggs on everything from now on), and because the Squash + Zucchini was seasoned with just a touch of sweetness, it kept the combination from being too savory.
The atmosphere has a neighborly, retro feel to it, like you’re in a cafe or diner from 50s/60s, so whether you’re dashing in for a quick grab + go breakfast or stopping by for a bite to eat with your family, the open yet intimate floor plan gives off a sense of community and makes you want to just slow down and indulge, even if just for a minute.
The menu has quite a bit to choose from, so return visits are on the horizon. Click here to see the full menu.
