One of the cool things about being part of Redbook Magazine’s Team Red Program is that you get to sample new goodies from time to time. I received their Fall Redbox Beauty Box delivery with a few full-sized products to help get your skin and hair ready for the season. When this cute little red box showed up I couldn’t wait to dig in.
The Beauty Box included:
Dove Dry Oil Body Wash
SkinFix Hand Repair Cream
Ogx Bamboo Root Boost Spray
Dove’s new Dry Oil Body Wash with Moroccan Argan Oil. This new formula replenishes with 12x more skin natural nutrients than competitors and uses the NutriumMoisture technology penetrate skin up to 10 layers deep to protect essential lipids and proteins. Used regularly, skin becomes much more supple, which is why their products are a staple. Dove has been one of my favorite beauty products since I was a teen. I use both the beauty bar and body wash (I go between the Original and Sensitive Skin formulas depending on the fragrance I’m wearing), and I’ve always loved the fact that it not only has that fresh, clean scent, but it’s also hydrating. My face has combination skin but my body is dry, so I have to use a hydrating body wash/soap plus a moisturizer to keep the ash away (yes, light-skinned Black girls can get ashy, lol).
Speaking of ash, a rich moisturizer or oil is a MUST-HAVE for colder months. I do so much with my hands, so I try to keep a thick lotion on deck at all times. Skinfix’s Hand Repair Cream is a medicinal hand cream that was developed to help treat eczema, so it’s packed with emollient oils, natural butters and other botanical nutrients. It’s pH balanced and free of fragrances, so it won’t irritate your skin. The cream is really thick but absorbs quickly; you can apply it when you’re on the go, and if you’re someone that washes your hands a lot (germs. ew.), your hands will still be moisturized. It also contains 1% colloidal oatmeal, so if you have an eczema flare up or just dry, cracked skin in general, it’s very soothing. 99% of my photoshoots take place outside, so this will live in my purse.
Summertime humidity can make my natural but straightened hair frizz up if I don’t use the right product cocktail, but the dryness of cooler air can give me flyaways and split-ends. I keep it moisturized, but I have to be careful with how much I use because I like my hair to have volume, so I look for products that will help boost it up without having to use hair spray (I still want my hair to move). Whether I wear my hair straight or wavy, I NEED volume or it just looks weird. I’ve used Ogx products for years (they smell great and are sulfate free), and the Bamboo Root Boost Spray works well with their Moroccan Penetrating Oil that I currently use. It has a fortifying blend of bamboo fibers and soy protein to help thicken hair; just apply to roots when hair is clean and damp, then blow dry and style as usual.
If this was a monthly subscription box service, I’d be pleased. Receiving full-sized products that you’d actually use is awesome; I mean, I love samples as much as the next girl but many times it’s never enough to get a real understanding of a product. I like to test out things a few times to get an honest review, and a full-sized option allows you to do that.
Have you used any of these products before? Thoughts?
