I’ve been blogging for over 6 years now, and I always wished that there was a manual to help fashion bloggers really navigate through the digital atmosphere when I got started. Capture Your Style by Aimee Song is the closest thing I’ve found so far. Sure, there are a ton of books out there related to blogging, and even fashion blogging specifically, but her book is filled with actionable tips + tricks to help you get started in a way that makes sense.
If you’re not familiar with Aimee, she’s the creator of the wildly popular blog Song of Style. She reached “Top Blogger” status many years ago, and in her new book, she talks about her journey in blogging and things she did along the way to get her to where she is now. Sure, having great style and an interesting perspective is a must, but there are certain things that anyone can do when it comes to visual storytelling if you want to grow your social media following and blog readership.
Aimee has over 4 million followers on Instagram, so clearly, the girl knows her stuff. Her book is filled with some of her most beautiful shots (many done with an iPhone, no less), with tips on lighting, finding cool backdrops, even how to find props to style flatlays. She even gives tips on how to keep your feed flowing in a way that’s cohesive but still visually appealing.
For fashion bloggers, Instagram is the most important platform to have in conjunction with your blog, so this book is a great read if you’re trying to really get in the game and need some real insight on what having a great, engaging profile can do. If nothing else, you’ll get a little outfit inspo!
