I recently stopped by the Crowne Plaza Memphis Downtown to check out their newly renovated space. Located in Downtown Memphis near the Cannon Center, the hotel recently took on a multi-million dollar renovation project; a new front desk area, signage, state of the art fitness center + new decor throughout the hotel lobby and rooms were included in the project.
I’ve wanted to do a hotel staycation for a while but wasn’t sure where; this might be the place. Helen Nelson, their Director of Sales, took me on a quick tour of the facility, filling me in on all of the major and minor changes that were made to the facility. I worked in hospitality years ago (front desk + group sales), so it was fun talking to someone within the industry now. Had we not been laid off I probably would have continued working there. I was at a small, more corporate driven hotel, so we had to get pretty creative when we went out to drum up business (including our GM dressing up as a cow while the Director and I wore pjs + rollers in hair. But that’s a story for another day. Ha!)
I loved the fitness center; treadmills, bikes, free weights and yoga mats, so you wouldn’t be restricted with what you wanted to do. It felt private and safe, almost like a home gym, so you wouldn’t have anything to worry about anything no matter what time you got your workout in.
The rooms were minimalist + chic, with little pops of color to break things up. If you’re a fan of the city’s downtown architecture, you’d love the views.
Family friendly, the lobby was redesigned to be a place where everyone could hang out. Watch TV, play board games, grab a cocktail from the bar or have a quick dinner; it’s all connected so you didn’t necessarily have to stay together in order to hang out there.
The Notes & Provisions Restaurant and Bar offers Southern Favorites with a twist (think homestyle shrimp + grits, bourbon pecan pie, and of course, BBQ). If you chose to dine in, you can get a taste of Memphis without leaving your room.
They also have an updated patio, so on balmy nights, you can grab a cocktail and bites and chill outside while listening to the hustle + bustle of the city.
