As the seasons change, one Fall style trend to be on the lookout for when the weather is so unpredictable is the slip dress. It’s not new (remember the 90s?), but the slip dress trend now lives somewhere between being romantic and editorial as opposed to sporty and gothic. Black or pale pink are classic choices, but crushed velvet and silk numbers in lush hues like burnt orange or teal are fun contenders right now.
If you loved the 90s vibes of the look, simply layer it over a short-sleeve white tee and/or under a denim jacket, but if a more modern approach is what you’d prefer, wear it under oversized sweaters (the combination of textures is just beautiful), with a drapey trench coat or blazer, and with sharp ankle booties and heels. If you just can’t bare to do a heel, go with a slip on loafer or tennis shoes instead of flats.
It’s a relatively easy trend to try for anyone, no matter their age, size, or style. Pay attention to construction and fit; with this being such a streamlined silhoutte, you want pieces that are well made and that softly graze the body versus it being skintight.
Midi length or longer will be the most flattering for most, and will keep you from looking like you literally just crawled out of bed and walked out the door. Stock up on long sleeve tees and turtlenecks to give your looks variety, and don’t be afraid to mix in some jewelry, and make the look more festive with bright or printed accessories.
