By no means am I a skin expert, but I’ve always understood the importance of taking care of your skin and developing a routine to help keep it healthy. I get to test a lot of products because of the blog (and am a product junkie in general), so I’m always switching out things for my daily routine. I’m entering a time where additional anti-aging and overall care procedures (facials, peels, etc.) can be done regularly, however, and I recently had a chance to get a personalized facial with Aisha Rogers, ME at The Skin Clinics East.
I met with Aisha for a Dermaplaning facial, which has been around for a while but has become very popular over the last few years. It’s a safe, physical form of exfoliation that does a lot more than your usual exfoliating scrub: during the process, they use a small scalpel to gently remove dead skin and peach fuzz, which will allow skin to better absorb products and have a brighter, smoother complexion. Exfoliating is probably my favorite step in my routine (I love to wear makeup so this helps to keep my skin smooth), and have experimented with face shaving at home, so I was excited to try the real thing.
When I first arrived, I loved how stylish The Skin Clinics East location is. There’s the requisite dedicated wall space for products, but the overall aesthetic of the medispa is luxe minimalism (plush rugs, white chairs, pretty lighting and a touch of greenery) so you’re instantly relaxed once you walk in.
I completed a questionnaire about my routine and skincare concerns while I waited, then Aisha came and lead me to a private space for my facial.
Once I got settled in, Aisha and I chatted about my skin, my concerns (texture and dark spots) her background and the benefits of the facial. Once she performed the dermaplaning (also sometimes called dermablading), she did a few extractions to help remove excess oil, a facial massage, followed by a customized mask (in my case a clay mask since I’m combination/oily), and finally an upper body, hand and foot massage that includes a warm towel on the feet. Whew! She also cleaned up my brows for me, so I felt like a new woman when she was done. My skin felt absolutely amazing and had a glow! This is the type of facial that can be done every 4-6 weeks to help keep skin in check and address any other skin concerns.
My appointment was only an hour, but during the time we also talked about some of her other services, including microblading (a form of permanent makeup for brows), which she specializes in. Because microblading is such a popular procedure right now,”techs” are popping up left and right, but you really want to go to a medical spa and/or work with a licensed esthetician to get procedures like this done. Once Aisha explained the steps and time that goes into doing it properly (anywhere from 11/2-2 1/2 hours depending on how your skin responds to it) there’s no way I’d take a chance on getting it done at a random nail salon.
Aisha works with The Skin Clinics but is also independent, so she offers both on location and at-home services. In additional to facials and microblading, she offers makeup application and other waxing and grooming services (click here for a full run-down). If you’re interested in trying dermaplaning (or just need a facial in general), contact Aisha and mention KPFUSION for $25 off any one hour facial.
The Skin Clinics is hosting a Christmas Open House this Tuesday between 12-7 at both of their locations. Click here to register; they will be offering free laser hair removal, mini make-overs and other discounts and gifts throughout the day. You don’t want to miss it!
