When it comes to trying Glossier products, I’ve yet to be disappointed. I’ve loved some products more than others, but overall, it’s a brand that I enjoy using and I look forward to their new product drops. I received their Solution (Exfoliating Skin Perfector) + Invisible Shield (Daily Suncreen SPF 35) to test out before it launched in late January and (not surprisingly), I’m a fan.
So when it comes to exfoliating, you can do it 2 ways: mechanically and chemically. Solution was developed with a 10% blend of Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA), Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA), and Polyhydroxy Acid (PHA) to (chemically) slough away dead skin cells, reduce the appearance of redness + pores, help improve texture and to help clear acne. I have very few breakouts, but I DO have issues with texture, large pores and a little redness (gotta love your 30s) and one of the things I immediately noticed after using Solution a few days was that my skin was incredibly soft. I use it twice daily (morning and night after cleansing) and it’s been about 5 weeks since I added it to my routine and there’s been some texture improvement, and a reduction in redness. I did have one minor breakout around week 3 (makeup brushes weren’t clean), but I feel like it went away quicker than normal; I didn’t have to spot treat it or anything.
I typically use a moisturizer with built in SPF because 1) I hate the smell of sunscreen and 2) I don’t like the cast that suncreen leaves on your face. However, you have to have some form of SPF included in your skincare routine because regardless of whatever products you’re using, you should be applying sunscreen daily in order to actually see the benefits of it, so I was interested to see how Invisible Shield would work.
I liked that it came with a pump, so I could control how much I used (2-3 pumps is enough), it absorbs quickly because it’s a waterless gel formula, and it’s not greasy or heavy. The ingredients say that it has a scent but it’s so faint that I don’t count it. It doesn’t interfere with my makeup either (which is a plus! Some products can have weird reactions and cause your makeup not to apply properly). While I would probably use something with a higher SPF than 35 at the beach or on a day when I’m out in direct sunlight for an extended amount of time, this works great for every day.
Solution retails for $24 (4.4oz), but comes with a push down dispenser, so even with twice daily use it should last you at least 2 months. Invisible Shield is $25 (1.oz) and it’s a little pricier than most sunscreens; if you need just basic SPF coverage it’s good for that but if you work outdoors I would suggest something stronger.
