I have been a huge fan of Rachel Roy for years (I can’t tell you how many profiles and interviews I’ve watched and read on her over the years), so I was ecstatic that she was this year’s Headlining Designer for Memphis Fashion Week. The way that Rachel runs her business, balances being a mother and career woman, and her philanthropic work is such an inspiration to me and so many other women, so I knew attending the luncheon was a must.
As expected, Rachel Roy did not disappoint.
She is so graceful, and I loved that she was very open and transparent with the crowd that afternoon about what goes into building a brand, becoming a better designer, and also balancing out what you do in your day to day life and not just focus on the work.
After the luncheon, there was a trunk show set up where we could shop and also chat with her. What I loved the most was how focused she was when she talked to people; if she was in conversation with you, she was talking to YOU, and her PR team didn’t hustle people through for basic photo ops. She connected with you, even if just for a few minutes, and everyone was a little more inspired once they left. I DID lightly fangirl out for a second (and told her such, lol) but she was so sweet and we laughed and talked about the importance of having a creative tribe. It was an afternoon I will never forget.
Here’s a peek at the some of the gorgeous personal style that was on display the Memphis Country Club:
