Last Saturday I had the pleasure of inviting my blogger boos Andrea, Carmeon, Ariane and Quaneshia out for a morning of beauty with the Dillard’s Wolfchase Beauty Dept. Dillard’s offers a ton of in-store free services and experiences that you can take part in at your chosen counter if you set an appt, and this was an opportunity for us to learn all about it. A big part of blogging is building connections within the community, and I’ve been blessed to actually become “real life” friends with a few here, so being able to catch up a bit and hang out while learning more about some of our favorite beauty brands was like icing on a cake.
We were treated to breakfast and to keep it exciting (and for some IG Story foolishness, lol), I decided that we should pull names vs. assigning each of us to a counter. The week prior I’d experienced a Dior Beauty Facial (it’s posted in my IG Story #Bloggerlife highlights), so I knew how amazing everything would be no matter what everyone picked. I picked Kiehl’s, one of the most iconic skincare brands and got to learn all about their products with their Specialist June.
Their counter reps and specialists are quite knowledgeable about their products but they’re also NICE, which is what makes a huge difference in your experience. Most of the time when we visit beauty counters we go in knowing exactly what we want, but it’s cool to sit and chat with them to learn about new products and the brand itself. June was so sweet and funny, so we were able to have an open and fun conversation about my skin and the brand without feeling like she was just trying to hawk product.
First up, we tested my skin to see what state it was in. There are little strips and even a reader that they have that can help you figure out if your skin type and your hydration level. The level will change based on activity, fluid intake, even if you’ve been out in the sun, but it’s good to check it before a consultation like this so that you can find out what your skin needs at that moment.
So…aaaaall this time I thought that I was oily/combination and my skin is actually closer to normal with a little bit of dryness! I do get oiliness in my T-Zone, but if you’re constantly using mattifying products or trying to dry it out (like I have been), you’re actually making your skin produce more oil to make up for it. Well color me shocked! When we did the hydration test, I already knew that I was dehydrated because I’d been slacking on my water intake, so we talked about creating a regime to help bring back the right amount of moisture and hydration to keep it more balanced.
We removed my makeup with the Herbal-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water first because I am a fan of double cleansing (and I like testing out stuff, lol). A lot of people use micellar water on its own because it’s very thorough (and great if you’re somewhere were the water is terrible), but I also wanted to do the standard 3-step system as well since the brand is known for it. We then used the Ultra Facial Cleanser, Toner, and Moisturizer SPF 30, which are all formulated with ingredients like Squalane, Apricot Kernel Oil, Vitamin E and Avocado Oil and are suitable for all skin types. They’re mild, so they don’t strip the skin and help set the foundation for your overall skincare routine.
Even though I thought I was oily I still loved using oils, creams and serums, so we added in a cocktail of the Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution (that you can actually use all over so that you brighten evenly), and then the Youth Dose Eye Treatment which instantly hydrates and brightens (a must-have if you have dark circles). The hydration in my skin improved greatly once we were done-it looked visibly plumper and I could feel it.
After this, we chatted some more about other products/steps I could add in, and then I went to the Chanel counter and had my makeup done by Marissa, who actually used to shop with me when I worked at BR! I hadn’t seen her since I left almost 3 years ago (we used to have some of the most amazing conversations when she would come in) so we both were like “woah, I know you!” haha!
When I tell you guys that my skin felt so refreshed and amazing after the treatments, its an understatement. I’m thankful that it’s not problematic and the issues that I deal with are very mild, but I’ve been using the products all week and I can tell that my skin is better hydrated because of my makeup application. I haven’t been as oily as I normally am, and the pore/texture issue that I always struggle with on my left cheek and undereye (it’s always dry) has diminished a LOT. At first I thought that it was the foundation I was using but I switched it up and I had the same (great) results.
I’m doing Kiehl’s 28 day challenge, so I will keep you guys posted on the progress of my skin, and be sure to check out Andrea’s, Carmeons, Ariane’s and Quaneshia’s blogs for their recaps of their day. Each of our experiences were different, so you’ll be getting some great insight on the products and services they received from Chanel, Dior, Lancome and Edge Beauty. These are all services that anyone can receive (it’s not just for bloggers), so we’re having fun sharing all of the deets with our readers. If you have the time, make an appt at your favorite counter and go treat yourself!
