Yummy food at a great price point is always a plus for me, and Saucy Chicken (a new fast-casual dining concept that recently opened in Crosstown Concourse) fits the bill. Located in the space that used to be Mama Gaia’s (same owner), Saucy Chicken offers a nice variety of quick, easy dishes made with locally-sourced ingredients that will make your mouth water but not break the bank.
Chef Celina Webb created 6 made from scratch sauces that are offered daily and will give your meal an extra burst of flavor you didn’t know you needed. The menu isn’t overwhelming, but there is a good variety of chicken, fish, and salad options available so you have options. They even have mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms available as premium sides, which is pretty pretty nice. I recently grabbed lunch there with my friend Ziggy and it did not disappoint!
First off, the portions are niiiiiice. I ordered the Chicken Po’Boy w/fries while he had the Catfish Nuggets with house-made tarter sauce + fries. Both the chicken and fish were very lightly breaded, but most importantly, they were actually seasoned beyond that, which makes a huge difference in the overall flavor. We also had some of their homemade fruit-tea (if they have the peach flavor, GET INTO IT).
We tried out some of the sauces as well (my fave was the Crosstown Comeback), but they honestly didn’t need it. The sauces compliment the dishes (vs. saves them), so you don’t have to drench your food in it in order to make it taste good. I grew up in a household where you knew the chicken or fish was cooked right if you DIDN’T have to add anything extra to it, so it was quite a treat. And because the portion was so large, I was able to save half of it for later.
Best part of it all? Both of our entrees were only $7.99 each. We chatted briefly with management while were there, and one of their goals was to offer both residents and visits of Crosstown a budget-friendly dining option that didn’t compromise on taste or quality. All of the chicken is antibiotic free, and by using locally sourced ingredients, the food is fresh, delicious, and affordable.
There will be a little tweaking to their menu while they figure out what really works, but you can see the current menu by clicking here. It doesn’t take a long time for your food to come out either, so you can easily pop in for a quick lunch; just be prepared to go into a food coma afterwards. Ha!
