Day 2 of the Memphis Fashion Week Runway Shows returned to Memphis College of Art. This night’s show highlights collections from the EMDP participants (both past and new) plus a few other headliners and is favorite for locals because we’re able to see and support so many new and aspiring designers from the community. They showcase Teen, Singles, and Mini Collections, and the winners within each category received monetary scholarships to help them continue on with their design careers. We also so collections from R Gene Clothing and Siss Viss.
The shows from this night are always interesting because you’re able to see both the creativity and levels of craftsmanship of the designers. While there may always be a few pieces that you can tell were made by someone just starting to learn design, more times than not, the craftsmanship is will done and many pieces could move beyond being samples and be sold after the show if the designer wanted to. Here are highlights from their collections:
Siss Viss closed out the show and she never disappoints!
It was POURING RAING throughout the entire day, so most attendees got soaked but also miraculously maintained their chicness despite it all. I, unfortunately, stepped in not one but TWO unavoidable puddles on my walk from my car and got my dress 75% soaked because of how the wind was blowing the rain. Thankfully, I know people in high places and was able to immediately go backstage and borrow a hair dryer (thank you Pavo Salon!) to dry off before the show haha. My hair fell flat but I still made it work!
Regardless of the weather, I knew that I wanted to wear this black and white mixed floral wrap dress from the Beauticurve x Lane Bryant Collection. If you follow me on IG you know I tried on some dresses when I was there the week before for an event, and I loved the vibes that it gave. The long sleeves kept me warm, but I looooooved how the front slit moved when you walked, so it showed some leg whenever you decided to walk. I’ll be able to wear it in into early Summer and I can’t wait.
Overall, it was a really fun night and getting to be on the other side of the camera for a change for a few days was pretty cool. I loved getting to know Anne, Tania and Psyche, and hopefully I can make trip to their respective cities soon.
That’s a wrap for Memphis Fashion Week!
