[…] Saturday peeps! As some of you may know, The Dixon Gallery + Gardens is one of my favorite museums to visit, and I’m so excited to be partnering with them on a giveaway for Art on the […]
As a born and raised Memphian, there is nothing that I love more than exploring my city. Over the last few years there’s been a sort of cultural explosion, so while we still have some of our tried and true favorite attractions and restaurants that Memphis is known for (Sun Studio, Rendevous Restaurant, Graceland), it feels like new restaurants and small businesses are opening up every week. Whenever I get a break in my work schedule, these are some of my favorite things to do around town:
Coffee at 17 Berkshire
If you follow me on IG you know that I live for a latte and macaroon (or 2!) from here. The bright white aesthetic and deliciously sweet treats that they offer make this a weekly go-to for me when I need a cup of joe, or just want to hang out in Overton Square and work a bit.
A visit to Dixon Garden and Galleries
The Dixon is one of my favorite museums to visit, especially in the Springtime when the gardens are in bloom (it’s peak blooming season for their tulips right now). When the weather is nice, you can pack up a picnic lunch and hang out in the garden after viewing one of their exhibits.
Cocktails at the Hu. Roof
I’m obsessed with the tropical vibes that you feel while hanging out at the Hu. Hotel’s rooftop bar. Their Mint Tea Punch is the perfect Summer cocktail to cool down with, and when you go at night, you can get an amazing view of the Hernando de Soto Bridge.
A lesson in history on Beale Street
You can find great drinks and BBQ on Beale, but did you know that you can also take in some Memphis history as well? Dr. Ernest C. Withers was a renown historian and photographer, and his fine art gallery (The Withers Collection Museum & Gallery) is located there. Photographs of Dr. King, Al Green, B.B. King and other key figures in Memphis History line the walls, so you can go for tour when visiting downtown.
Supporting local on Broad Avenue
The Broad Avenue Arts District has grown so much over the years, and it’s one of my favorite areas to hang out in in the city. Whether it’s shopping cool indie brands at Falling Into Place or noshing on delicious crab cakes (with a cocktail of course) at The Liquor Store, there are so many interesting small businesses to support on the strip.
