I’ve never been a person that wanted to have a capsule wardrobe, but I had a realization at the beginning of the season that there are certain items that if given the options, I’d buy in multiple colors because I love how they fit. I’m a work in progress and still like to shop, but I have begun purging my closet of pieces that no longer serve me or are my style. Fall is my absolute favorite time of year (and it finally feels like it in Memphis), so there are certain style essentials that I try to stock up on to get me through the season.
Moto Jacket
Ok, so full transparency: this is the first Fall EVER that I’ve found multiple moto jackets that I actually 100% love! I’ve had regular leather jackets and bomber jackets, but I’ve always wanted a certain style of jacket but could never find them. Earlier in the season I found both a faux suede version from Nordstrom Rack (the tan one I’m wearing; it also comes in petites + plus), and a black faux leather one from Target. They’re both cut similarly (the tan one is a little looser because I went up a size), but I love them both and have been wearing them interchangeably.
Distressed Denim
Regular denim is fine, but there is nothing like a pair of distressed denim when you’re looking to add a touch of edginess to a casual look. These are old rockstar skinnies from Old Navy, but whether it’s a skinny fit or a boyfriend style, distressed denim is a must-have for me.
Casual Ankle Booties
I live for cute, stylish booties with a heel, but I still need to have some that I can run around all in day. These light tan ones are Coconuts by Matisse that I got for a great deal at the end of Spring this year, but I’ve also been able to find some great black ones from Simple Vera Wang that are so comfy and go with just about everything.
Comfy, Cozy Sweaters
A few years back I preferred to layer so I always wore a cardigan/tank/scarf combo but this Fall season has been all about cozy sweaters. If you’re on a tight budget but still want a quality sweater, Walmart has a collection called Time and True that is extremely affordable (I’m talking like $14!) and the quality is actually really nice! I also love sweaters from BR Factory (like the one I’m wearing), so depending on your budget, you got options. Look for sweaters that are classic in color + style for the most versatility.
Faux Leather Leggings
Earlier this year I found a pair of faux leather leggings from the Loft that were a size too big but I bought them anyway because they were so soft (they have the brushed cotton on the inside) and a great deal that I couldn’t pass up. They released them again this Fall and I went back and got them in the correct size a few weeks ago and I’ve worn them multiple times already. I love faux leather leggings because you can wear them really casually with a denim jacket and sneakers, or dress them up with cute boots and sweaters, and these are a fave because they’re ankle length so I don’t have to cuff them or try to get them hemmed and ruin them.
When you find pieces that you truly love, it makes getting dressed so much easier every day. I’ve purchased a few options within these categories and it’s been one of my best style decisions in awhile.
