A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of taking a staycation at ARRIVE Memphis, one of the newest hotels to open in Downtown Memphis. A former Memphis College of Art building, ARRIVE is a 62-room boutique hotel located on S. Main Street; the designers’ focus for their hotels is all about highlighting the neighborhood while providing “low-key luxury”, and the rooms in ARRIVE reflect just that.
From the time I checked in I was in love with the aesthetics. The rooms have that nostalgic, mid-century modern look, but this is not your grandmother’s hotel (you check-in near Hustle & Dough downstairs, have Apple TV, and can text the staff if you need anything).
The small floral patterned wallpaper gave the room a cozy feel, while the black and white tiled bathroom kept things more modern and fresh.
A cool detail about the room is the sliding wall/mirror feature between the two rooms, so if you’re getting ready in the bathroom but want to continue watching tv (or chat with your partner while you take turns in the shower), you can just push it to the side so that you can stay connected.
ARRIVE offers a few dining options on site:
- Hustle & Dough Bakery + Cafe (freshly baked pastries and toast sandwiches)
- Vice + Virtue Coffee (specialty coffee micro roaster),
- Bar Hustle (craft cocktails + beer with small bites from Hustle & Dough),
- Longshot (high end bar food with a primary focus on house-made sausages; they also have some of the best brussel sprouts I’ve ever had)
While they don’t offer room service, you can still enjoy a nice bite to eat without having to leave the hotel. I arrived later in the evening and had an event to attend as well, so it was too dark for me to get good pictures, but I dined at Longshot, which has a cool, lowkey underground feel because it’s located in the hotel’s basement. The drinks are STRONG, so if you love a good cocktail, definitely pop in here. I also tried the Korean BBQ Sausage, fries, and some churros (from the comfort of my bad and it was the best treat ever!); I could barely finish my meal because it was so filling. Delicious, but filling, lol.
I slept beautifully in my room (thankfully downtown Memphis isn’t really loud, so I was able to get a good night’s sleep without being disturbed), and once I checked out, I grabbed a chai latte and avocado toast (they were bomb!) and people watched in their gorgeous lobby for a bit before I left.
Whether you’re visiting Memphis or a local and just want somewhere to hang out, ARRIVE is a cool little spot that you can dip into. It’s pet and kid friendly and within walking distance of many locally owned businesses, restaurants and attractions, so it’s a great choice if you want to treat yourself to a boutique experience while exploring the city. My hometown is slowly but surely turning into a metropolitan city and I am so here for it.
