When I was in middle school, I was obsessed with t-shirt dresses. I was a tomboy but loved makeup, and while I didn’t really like to wear traditional dresses, if you showed me a t-shirt dress I wanted it. They served as a happy medium for me when it came to more feminine styles, and my favorite way to wear them was with a pair of icy white sneakers and 2 pairs of slouch socks.
It’s funny when I think back to this time because up until 9th grade, I was also the girl that always put gym shorts under her dresses. It took me a long time to feel comfortable without them (by senior year I’d left my tomboy style behind and was wearing cardigan sets and pencil skirts, lol), but I can remember these looks so vividly because that was also the last time that I regularly wore sneakers lol (when I say my style evolved, it EVOLVED). Sure, I kept a pair of workout shoes on deck and I also bought my first pair of Converse last year, but again, you could never mistake me for a sneakerhead. When I tried on this snakeskin print shirt dress from Southern Muse, however, I knew that I needed to get my Sporty Spice on and pair it with sneakers.
The dress works fine with sandals, but I wanted to wear a more playful look and channel my youth, if you will. These white sneakers from Nautica are perfect-so comfy-and when it gets chilly, I can throw a denim jacket or leather moto over it. Once Fall comes I can wear it with my favorite black thigh high boots as well.
It gets so hot in Memphis during the Summer (though, we’re now entering July and we’ve had one of the mildest ones ever so let me hush), and this is one of those dresses that you can throw on to run out the door and still look put together. I don’t know how often I’ll go sporty with my looks, but I wasn’t mad at this one at all.
