Last week I had the pleasure of visiting STIX’s new Downtown Memphis location for dinner. If you’ve never been to STIX, it’s locally-owned and offers authentic Pan-Asian dishes in a family-friendly setting. It has been a while since I’ve been to their Carriage Crossing location, but I had been craving sushi, so I scooped up my friend Carmeon and we headed down for an early dinner and to check the new space out.
Unlike their other location that’s in Carriage Crossing, the new spot is a 2,600-square-foot space that is designed to cater to tourists, busy professionals, and those looking to dash in for a quick meal. It’s not a huge space, but there’s ample seating if you want to dine in.
Before arriving I’d gotten recommendations on what to try, so I ordered a sushi burrito (they offer 2 different ones; I got the Grizz Burrito (spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, cucumber, crab, masago, spicy mayo and sweet soy), and an Asian Steamed Buns (they offer 2 + we ordered the Shrimp Steamed Buns (apple ginger slaw, crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy spicy sauce) and Edamame. Carmeon ordered a Ginger Salad and a Grit and Grind Roll (snow crab, cucumber, avocado, soft shell crab topped with crunchies, spicy aioli and sweet soy).
YALL. This food was so good! First of all, it was my first time trying a sushi burrito and I was an instant fan, lol. And the Asian Steamed Buns?? OMG. The flavor combinations in both of them were so complimentary, and the dishes are fulfilling but not to the point where you will feel stuffed. For drinks we tried their Sake Slushies and if you are a traditional Sake fan, you will enjoy this version. It was so refreshing, especially with it still being so hot out.
When I say that we smashed our meals, we SMASHED them, lol. Everything was so good, Carmeon even ordered a few items to go for her hubby even though she’d made him dinner before she left. The meal was THAT good. Ooh! We also got to sample a Lobster Steamed Bun that’s not on the menu yet (if it’s available when you go, GET IT).
The dishes are very affordable and the portions are shareable, so if you want to get takeout or grab a quick meal somewhere downtown just to get out of the house, I highly recommend it. To see their menu, click here.
