I finally started shopping for my Fall wardrobe a few weeks ago, and I’m sooooo ready for it stay cool for GOOD (go away, Indian Summer!) so that I can actually wear it, lol. My style hasn’t really changed that much, but over the last year, I’ve really streamlined what I buy. I like the look of a lot of trends, but like most people, I tend to wear a lot of the same pieces over and over again. It doesn’t make sense to try and go out to buy a whole new wardrobe, but there are a few pieces that I knew I would need to help me ease into the season.
If you’re in the process of updating your Fall wardrobe as well, consider adding a few of these transitional pieces to your wardrobe.
Combat Boots
So these where the first item I absolutely had to add to my wardrobe. I’ve always really liked the look of combat boots with girly dresses, but I never actually tried the trend to see if I’d actually like it on ME. I didn’t want to spend $150 on some Dr. Martens (which are iconic), but trying to find a pair of boots that had the look I wanted was hard. I bought 2 pairs that were no bueno when I tried them on at home, but then I lucked up on a pair of Doc dupes on Amazon for less than $60! They look almost exactly like them. I’ve had them for over 2 weeks and have worn them at least 5x, so they’re definitely a go for me. Obviously with them being a cheaper version in quality they probably won’t last very long, so I’m going to actually invest in a real pair once these are done since I know I’ll get great cost per wear out of them.
Slightly Oversized Sweater
Oversized sweaters are a given right now, but my main focus this time around is color. I will continue to be playful with my dresses and the patterns I choose, but solid blacks, tans, greys, creams, rust, etc. are my focus for sweaters this season. They’re so easy to style and go with literally everything.
Girlfriend Jeans
Girlfriend denim (like boyfriend but a better fit IMO) has been my favorite casual/street style denim for the last 3 years. I just picked up another pair from BR Factory; I love that their denim doesn’t have too much stretch in them, but once you break them in, they fit perfectly. And the length is always good for me too! As long as they don’t ever change this fit, I will buy this style from them.
Long Knit Cardigan
Long knit cardigans are a Fall staple. They go with everything, and they are key to helping you transition those lightweight skirts, dresses and blouses into Fall. I always stock up on these this time of year.
Distressed Skinny Jean
It’s actually time for me to re-up on my denim, so I’m also on the hunt for some distressed skinny jeans. I love a good skinny, but brands keep changing the cut of tried and true fits, so my go-tos are no longer my go-tos. I don’t get rid of my jeans until I find replacements and I really want to find a dark wash and a black wash pair. I do NOT like high-rise denim, but that seems to be what everyone is making right now, but hopefully I’ll be able to find a mid-rise fit I like.
Under the Knee Boots
I still love my thigh high boots and will wear them, but I really want a pair of tan under the knee boots. Believe it not, I want to wear more skirts this season. I don’t want to always have my bare legs out (I HATE tights),
but sometimes my thigh high boots are too much. If I can find the perfect neutral boot, I’ll be happy as a clam.
Knit Midi Dress
I’ve really come to love midi dresses this last year, but it has been a struggle finding knit midi dresses that don’t look like you’re wearing a pair of skims undergarments. I found 2 around my birthday last year that I really like, and I’m hoping I can find some quality ones this year as well. I see them on Amazon all the time, but I don’t want to order everything from there-I prefer trying my clothes on first, ya know? There are 2 in my cart right now, though, so I might make an exception, lol.
Black Denim Jacket
I LOOOOOVE the light-washed distressed denim jacket that I got in the Spring, and it’s definitely time to add a black one into the mix. I prefer to layer rather than wear heavy coats once it gets cold (I literally rip my coat off as soon as my car warms up), so jackets are more my thing.
There are some additional pieces that I want to add to my Fall wardrobe, but these are all essentials on my list.
