I am ALWAYS trying out new skincare and beauty products, and being a part of Ulta’s Beauty Collective in 2020 meant that I was testing stuff out even more, lol, so I wanted to share some of my favorite beauty products from last year now that we have wrapped up 2020.
Most of these products weren’t necessarily released in 2020, but they were the ones that I found myself reaching for (and rebuying) over and over again. I do have a list of my every day holy grail beauty products here, and there is some product crossover, but these are all specific picks for me that I’ve loved using this year and I thought you guys may want to try out for yourself.
Born This Way Foundation
When I first purchased this foundation, I wasn’t sure if I liked it because it didn’t have a matte finish (I’m oily and prefer those formulas), but now, I LOVE it and am currently on my second bottle. It has been one of my best matched foundations, and I love how it looks on the skin (it makes you glow). If you’re someone that loves foundation that still let’s your skin look like SKIN, but you can still get great, buildable coverage, try this out.
Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer
I love a full coverage concealer, but sometimes I want to do lighter makeup and I really like how this hides my dark circles while still brightening my undereye area. The key to this concealer (well all concealers, really), is to let them dry down for about 10-15 seconds and THEN blend it out. It helps to thicken it up so you use less product, but still get good coverage.
Kylie Lip Kits
My co-worker Delaini is the one that convinced me to try these out and I have been hooked on them ever since. I’ve been a fan of liquid lipsticks for years now, so the formula wasn’t new to me, but there’s something about the color selection and pigmentation that I really like from them. They go on evenly, don’t peel (I’ve used brands before that beaded up and made your lips feel gross), and aren’t as drying as people have made them out to be. I can also use them without a lip liner as well. I currently own 4 shades that live in rotation in my purse, and I plan to continue to add to the collection.
Morphe Continuous Setting Mist
Hands down, this has been the my favorite setting spray. It sets your makeup while making it look glowy (not wet), and more importantly, it comes out as an even aerosol mist. I’ve tried a few other brands that have pumps and you basically have to drench your face in order to get it to evenly come out, but this one is a quick little spritz and you’re good. Now, they have a few formulas out and I personally have only had great results with the original one in the black can. I will try one of the others again once I’m done with my current bottle, but if it ain’t broke…
Laura Mercier Loose Translucent Powder
So…it took me a while to figure out how to best use this powder on myself, and once I did it became a daily staple and I’m now on my second pot. I don’t really care to use this on my entire face, BUT, it’s been a game changer for my undereye area. I like to apply this with a beauty sponge after concealer, but BEFORE I layer a pressed powder over it. I’ve found that when I do this, it helps to limit almost all creasing undereye, and it keeps the compact powder in place. It sounds like a lot of product and that it could potentially be drying, but if you do it right (and also use a setting spray when done), you will have the most flawless finish and it’ll stay put all day long.
Fenty Beauty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer
A great bronzer is key to a cohesive makeup look, and this one by Fenty has been my fave since I bought it. The color is perfect on my skin. I can create a softer contour with it since it’s a warm but deep shade, and it layers beautifully with almost every blush I’ve paired with it. It can also double as eye shadow on days that I want a light beat with few products.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 Mascara
This might be my all-time favorite mascara. I honestly don’t know what tube number I’m on, but even when I try out other formulas, I still go back to this. I have oily eyelids, so I HAVE to use waterproof mascara. If I don’t, I will have raccoon eyes within an hour, and this is the only one that I’ve found that get’s the job done but is also easy to remove at night without ripping out all my lashes. The only drawback with this is that it seems to dry out quicker than normal, but my work around has been to buy it in travel sizes so that I don’t waste product.
L’Oréal Voluminous Lash Primer
Speaking of lashes, how in the world have I been using mascara all of these year’s without a primer?? This is truly a game changer, yall. It works with so many different formulas, and your lashes look sooo long when this is applied first. This is a primer that I will definitely be restocking.
Tree Hut Firming Sugar Scrub (Mocha and Coffee Bean)
I LOVE to exfoliate. Love. That is my number one tip (for face and body) followed by hydration whenever anyone asks me about my skin. I’ve always used exfoliating scrubs, but lately I’ve been using Tree Hut’s Firming Sugar Scrub at least once or twice a week to help keep my skin soft. It’s affordable and makes your skin feel like butter when you use it. It says to apply it to wet skin but I prefer to apply to dry because I feel like it REALLY removes any dead skin that you may have on your body, and that extra scrubbing helps with circulation. Trust me and get this body scrub!
There are a ton of other beauty faves that I’ve enjoyed this year, but these were the ones that stood out the most for me in 2020.
