Guys, today marks ELEVEN years since I launched KPFUSION! It’s still surreal to me that I’ve been blogging for so many years (and regularly at that!), but I honestly can’t imagine letting it go. With that being said, I wanted to celebrate the day sharing what I know to be true about blogging.
Authenticity Reigns Supreme
Being yourself goes a long way in life, and in blogging. So many people adapt the mannerisms and content concepts of other bloggers in the hopes of growing a following quickly, when in reality, the secret sauce for longevity is authenticity. Now, “authenticity” can be commodified as well (can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen content that was created in an effort for it to be viewed as them “being real and raw”, but in reality, it’s just another content pillar). That’s not the same thing. When I say be authentic, it means truly showing up as yourself every single day, vs. trying to cultivate a persona that you think people will latch on to because it appears cool. Seriously, just be yourself. As you grow and evolve as a person, you won’t struggle with your content and showing up for your community if you were doing this in the first place. It’ll be natural. You don’t have to share all aspects of your life in order to be authentic (what you choose to share is up to you and what feels most comfortable), but if you share what’s real for YOU, you’ll enjoy being a part of this community for a long time.
You Are Your Niche
Every time you feel yourself being stuck trying to figure out what you want to share, take yourself back to your WHY, but also remember that if you actually incorporate personal elements into your content, you can talk about whatever you want and it will resonate with your audience. Every single person on this planet is different, but we all share common interests with someone. This means that regardless of what you talk about, it will be interesting if it’s written from YOUR perspective. If you want to share inspirational content, that’s cool, but don’t get caught up in just sharing generic motivational quotes that everyone else is sharing-inspire people by living your life and SHOWING them how you do it. Don’t be afraid to go beyond the surface level with whatever it is that you want to talk about. People get invested in people, so share in a way that makes people want to be invested in YOU.
Consistency is Better Than Perfection
Content will forever be King, but Consistency with be your Queen. Look, I understand the importance of leveling up how your content looks (I mean I am a photographer and work with some amazing content creators and brands), but at the end of the day, no one will care about those perfectly curated photos if they’re never posted, or posted so sporadically that people forget about you. We ALL have to start somewhere (I mean, when I started this blog I didn’t really know how to use my camera-I was just pressing buttons and hoping I got it right, lol), but the beauty in starting is that in time, if we’re really loving what we’re doing, we will keep going and will naturally get better. You have to put effort behind what you create, but more importantly, you have to put content out. Nobody cares about all of those notes in your notebook or blog drafts in you’ve written if they never see the light of day, babe.
Anyhoo, I share these things with you because I hope that if you’re interested in blogging, you know that it takes work, but it can be so much fun and lead to a lot of different opportunities (at varying levels), if you keep these 3 things in mind.
As always, I’m so thankful for you all in this community that share this little corner of the internet with me, and I hope you continue to rock with me!
xo, Kim
