There are so many new style aesthetics floating around that it’s hard to keep up sometimes, but one that I’ve found fascinating (and drawn to) is cottagecore. Cottagecore fashion is described as an aesthetic or imagery inspired by an old-fashioned, rural lifestyle, characterized by rustic décor and fashion, a revival of traditional handicrafts, etc. (source). It’s been very popular since at least 2020, but I personally didn’t know the name of it until I researched it and realized it’s why certain styles started dominating in stores.
Unless you’ve been under a rock, you’ve noticed there’s been a HUGE influx of dresses and tops that have small florals, ruffle details and simplistic/peasant silhouettes, and that, my friends, is the essence of the cottagecore fashion trend. Sometimes it can err on the side of being Little House on the Prairieish, lol, but a lot times the pieces can be super cute. Take this dress that I ordered from Dia & Co.
I didn’t even notice that the name of it was the Katie Cottagecore Smocked Waist Maxi Dress, lol. I’m just a sucker for a good maxi and I loved the high neck detail and small floral print and the forest green color. I’ve been wanting a dress like this for years, but could never find one that fit how I liked but I was so happy with this one!
I paired it with yellow wedges because I think these colors work so well together, but I also love the fact that it will transition beautifully into the Fall with ankle boots and a long cardi. It’s available in a blue colorway as well, and I may order it (I’m still on the fence because I know it could be overkill, lol).
Will I buy more cottagecore pieces? Maybe. I need to do a deeper dive into the aesthetic to see how I could realistically add in those pieces without looking like I have on a costume (because nobody wants that, lol). If you’re interested in it, here’s a great post from the VOU that goes deeper into it with more examples, brands to shop, etc. Once you read it, you’ll be like ooooh ok!
Anyhoo, if you’re a curvy girl like me, check out Dia & Co. Even if Cottagecore isn’t a trend for you, they still have a lot of cute pieces and they carry sizes 10-32. If you see something you like, use code KPFUSION at checkout to save 30% off your first order OR shop via https://www.dia.com/r/3n6sz to get $25 off your first purchase of $50!
