It’s been a long time coming, but Owning The Block, Karleen Roy’s Empowerment Conversation Series, returns to Memphis on October 8th, and this time she’s bringing Fashion + Beauty Expert and Editor Kahlana Barfield Brown with her.
In partnership with Google Pixel, I am part of the TheMemphisTEN(10), the official ambassadors of the 2022 #OwningTheBlock event, so I’ll be there highlighting all of the fun that will be happening that night. You know it’s going to be hot!
The last #OwningTheBlock event took place in 2019 with CurlBox CEO Myleik Teele as her guest (you can read my recap here), and it was such an amazing event for the city, so I’m excited for it to finally return. Kahlana got her start working in publishing (I remember when she was an Editor at InStyle), and now she serves as an on-camera, beauty, and fashion expert, stylist, on-air talent, and ambassador for leading fashion brands around the world. Unless you’ve been under a rock, you know that she just dropped her Future Collective Collection with Target, so not only will she be bringing the knowledge, she’ll also be bringing the style.
The Pandemic put a lot of things on hold, but now that there is finally some normalcy in the air, events like #OwningTheBlock can continue. In a time when so many people are exploring their creativity and looking to have more than just a side hustle, events like this help move the needle in conversations that creatives and entrepreneurials need to have in order to continue to grow and excel at their craft. While we can use sites like LinkedIn and even Instagram to help connect us with other creatives and resources that we need, there is nothing like an in-person event.
I also love the fact that Karleen designed this event SPECIFICALLY to benefit the Memphis community, so if you want to the opportunity to meet and chat with some of the top trailblazers in the game via this event, you have to come to Memphis to get those gems. There are still some tickets remaining; click here to grab yours! Make sure you’re following us on Instagram and checking the #owningtheblock hashtag on IG to keep up!
