A few weeks ago, I came across a post on Threads where people were sharing their 2024 Summer Bucket List goals. Some of the lists were extravagant and included things like international travel multiple times, while others where a lot more simple (think farmers market, a trip to the beach, etc), lol. I’m in a season of transition, and it’s officially Summer, so I thought it would be a fun thing to do for myself, and I wanted to share my 2024 Summer Bucket List with you guys as well.
Now, your bucket list does NOT need to be overly complicated or even expensive. It’s all about making the most of the season (similarly to how we used to do when we were younger). I think the older we get, we can get so caught up in work and adulting that we get away from doing the little things that bring us joy and make it all worth it. I, for one, want to get back to doing that. So, here we go!
My 2024 Summer Bucket List
Go to the beach
I have a family trip to DR coming up within a few days and I cannot wait! I hope to visit a beach at least 2-3 more times before Summer is over. I NEED to be by water and just soak up the sun and relax and recharge. I also wouldn’t be opposed to going to a lake (but I’m not getting in it beyond my toes, lol).
Read more books
I have been struggling with getting back to reading, but I think this will be the Summer that I can REALLY get it together. I will be taking a few with me on our beach trip, but I really hope that before the season is over I can read at least 5. That should be doable in 3 months, right???
Visit museums
Going to a museum is truly one of my favorite past times, but it’s usually an art museum. We have over 30 museums here in Memphis (there’s a Metal Museum and Automobile museum that’s been on my list for months), so I really want to visit at least one every week.
Reconnect with nature
Now, I am not an outdoorsy person at ALL (bugs? humidity? YUCK), but for the past few weeks, I’ve been take trips to the park at least once a week to sit outside and read, listen to music, or do a word search puzzle. It’s only for about an hour, but I can’t lie, that time sitting smack dab in the sun and disconnecting from everyone and everything has been really nice. I also want to finish decorating my patio so that I can enjoy it (I wasn’t able to last year with everything going on with my fam). Picnics in the park with friends will also be included under this.
Photograph life beyond content
I love being a photographer and shooting content for myself and others, but I really want to get into shooting the mundane as well. Small things that I find beautiful, candid moments with friends… simple things just because. The beauty of photography is that everyone has a different eye, and I want to get back to expressing myself through the medium.
Find a new hobby
Growing up I used to draw, dance, try to bake, read, and just try new things, and I want to do that this Summer as well. Can I paint? Hell no, lol, but I’d love to take a class. Cooking and pottery too. Photography was a hobby that turned into a career, and while I will always do that because I love it, I want to continue to expand on my interests, no matter how the finished products turn out.
Take day trips
Memphis is close to so many small towns and cities that are less than 4 hours away, and I think a few day trips are in order. I can make the most of ANY situation, so I’ve never had to be somewhere for days in order to enjoy it. A few hours exploring a city is just enough to help recharge the senses without breaking the bank.
There’s a ton of other stuff to do, but I think this is a good start. I know it’s simple and not anything too exciting, but the older I get, the more I crave simplicity in my life.
What’s on your Summer Bucket List?
