Whether you’re a freelancer or someone that works a traditional 9-5, there’s no better time than now to start refocusing on your finances and getting things in order. Here are a few things I recommend to help create a budget that really works.
Budgeting for groceries to cook at home won't matter if the food will go bad. Make space in your budget to do both.
1. BE REALISTIC WITH YOUR BUDGET FOR FOOD
2. START AN EMERGENCY FUND
It’s best to have at least 6 months of expenses saved up, but also be honest with yourself about your cash flow. Save money based on your actual income, not a blanket savings goal.
3. KEEP AN OLD SCHOOL PIGGY BANK
4. cut back on small treats
01.
5. BUY NECESSITIES IN BULK
You will always need certain toiletries and cleaning supplies, so take time to make space in you laundry closet + buy those things things in bulk vs. one offs every month.
6. MEET FRIENDS FOR BREAKFAST + LUNCH INSTEAD OF DINNER + COCKTAILS
You don't have to go broke in order to hang with friends. Lunch instead of dinner is a way to enjoy each other but still save a little cash.
I don’t believe that you have to sacrifice every single thing in order to save money, but I do know that being more financially responsible will help you reach those bigger goals a lot sooner.
